Significance of the First RKM Centre in Rajasthan

The Ramakrishna Mission in Khetri is a remarkable place located in the Fateh Bilas Palace, the former residence of the King of Khetri. This historic palace was generously gifted to RKM in 1958. It is truly amazing to think that Swami Vivekananda himself stayed in this Palace during two of his three visits to Khetri in 1891, 1893, and 1897. What many may not realize is that it was in Khetri where Swami Vivekananda received the name that would later become famous, and that his iconic attire and turban were inspired by the local Rajputana culture. Additionally, his journey to the West was made possible largely due to Raja Ajit Singh, the then King of Khetri. This is a truly fascinating and inspiring part of history. The legacy continues with Swami Akhandananda, a fellow disciple of Swamiji, who also spent several months in Khetri. He played a pivotal role in introducing educational activities among the poor in the region. This initiative later became one of the core activities of the Ramakrishna Order, enabling many individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and lead dignified lives. The impact of the Khetri Centre is truly remarkable, and its rich history continues to inspire and uplift those who have the privilege of experiencing it.

Ajit-Vivek Museum Tour and Quiz Competition

Value Education Program_Khetri_ AUGUST-SEPTEMBER, 2024

As part of our value education program, we organized an event to spread the inspirational life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The event occurred twice a week, spanning from August 6 to September 27, 2024, and was open to students in grades 8-10 from schools in the Khetri block. Participants had the opportunity to visit the 'Ajit-Vivek Museum' for free, where they could gain insights into the life and messages of Swami Vivekananda.
The event featured a quiz competition to assess the students' powers of observation after the museum tour. Additionally, a documentary showcasing Swami Vivekananda's life was screened, followed by a discourse to guide the students. As a token of appreciation, participating schools received a memento, and all students, including the winners, were rewarded with books and pens. Furthermore, all attendees were provided with food packets during the event.
In total, the event spanned 17 days, with 1025 students and 112 teachers from 68 schools participating.
